Jonas McCallum's path to writing was a slow burn. After graduating from Sydney Uni with a Bachelor of Science, he briefly attended Theatre Nepean, produced two Shakespeare plays, taught Chemistry and – more by accident than design – fell into a corporate IT career.

In 1994 he purchased a Macintosh LC575 computer, which ignited his interest in writing. On it he wrote several letters, a short story, and the beginning of a memoir. The short story was later published in Deigratia, a bulletin of the Adventist Students Association.

Over the following 18 years he experimented with different forms of writing including poetry and drama. One of his poems won a prize and was published in the competition’s anthology. He also wrote a screenplay adaptation of a Jack Campbell novel which was reviewed by the development team at Great Point Media with a view to potential collaboration.

In 2013 he resumed study, taking Creative Writing at UTS and settling on narrative fiction as his preferred form. After completing a Graduate Diploma (for which he received the Outstanding Student Award) he published a collection of stories on Medium, establishing himself as an emerging writer.

In 2020 and 2022 he edited the first and second drafts of The Skyline, an adventure-fantasy novel written by his son.

McCallum has lived in 22 suburbs of Greater Sydney spanning the north, south, east, and west, and currently resides in Campbelltown. He is writing his first novel, and regularly contributes to a Sydney-based writers’ workshop through internations.org.
